‘American Idol’ Alum Lauren Alaina Opens Up About ‘Journey of Healing’ From Eating Disorder

Lauren Alaina recently took to Instagram to open up about her past eating disorder. The singer is a contestant on the new CBS show Beyond The Edge. On the show, contestants are pushed to their limits. Alaina’s appearance has led her to open up about her journey as well as her road to recovery.
The post comes on the heels of Beyond The Edge’s latest episode. The new series put nine celebrities in the jungle to compete for their charities. The competition is grueling and will last 14 days. If a contestant cannot withstand the challenge they can opt to leave. Week two was the most challenging yet and Alaina persevered, prompting her to open up to her fans.
“The realization that my body is unique, unfortunately, in my 10 year old brain started unhealthy thinking and led to a battle with an eating disorder for many years,” the country singer continued. “I have been on a journey of healing, self love, and confidence for quite a few years now.”
Fans are calling the Idol alum brave for being honest about her struggles. In an industry that is all about glitz and glamor, Alaina speaking out brings to light an important conversation. Alaina does give those who are also struggling hope and says she is recovering.

“I love and accept my body and celebrate my curves. I love that I don’t fit the mold, but it is still hard sometimes to feel that way 100% of the time,” Alaina wrote.
Alaina credits her fellow cast mate, model Paulina Porizkov for helping her find a new confidence in the body God gave her. The singer is proud of her journey. The body Alaina is learning to love has helped her stay in the tough competition. As of now only one contestant has left the show.
