When American Idol announced that former contestants from Season 18 would have a chance to take the final spot in this season’s Top 10, some fans were upset about the comeback twist.
Social media comments have suggested that this would be unfair to the current contestants. However, it looks like the former and current contestants are getting along just fine.
‘American Idol’ Contestants Getting Along With Comeback Singers
On Monday night, ten comeback singers from Season 18 performed for America’s vote. One of them will earn a spot in this season’s Top 10, and have a chance to become the winner of American Idol.
While some fans might have a problem with these comebacks, the artists themselves seem to be getting along. At least, Season 18 singer Makayla Phillips is.
Makayla Phillips says this year’s contestants are “some of the coolest people I’ve ever met.” //Instagram.
On Tuesday, Talent Recap posted a photo of Season 19 contestant Alyssa Wray. Phillips replied with two heart-eye emojis. When we asked her if she and her fellow comeback artists have hung out with this season’s contestants, she said yes.
“I can genuinely say, they are some of the coolest people I’ve ever met,” Phillips wrote. The singer also posted on Instagram about Sunday night’s show, writing of the Top 12, “They are DOING THE DAMN THING!!”
How Do This Season’s Contestants Feel About the Twist?
The feeling seems to be mutual, as Season 19 contestant Alyssa Wray had nothing but positive things to say about several comeback singers on Monday night’s show.
Wray posted on her Instagram stories, saying Makayla Phillips made her cry with her performance. She also said Franklin Boone “killed it” and Faith Becnel “ate it up.”
Meanwhile, Becnel herself posted an Instagram photo with fellow comeback artists DeWayne Crocker Jr. and Cyniah Elise, as well as this season’s artist Willie Spence. In case you needed any proof that the two groups of singers have actually been hanging out, they’ve been cheesing all over social media with no signs of stopping.
Fans have until next Monday to vote for their favorite comeback singer. The Top 9 have been enjoying a trip to Walt Disney World. They’ll return for Disney Night on Sunday, May 2.
