Adele is One Step Closer to Reaching EGOT Status After Her Emmy Award Win

English singer and songwriter Adele is now one step closer to reaching EGOT status. Over the weekend, the well-known singer won her first Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded) for her CBS Television special, Adele One Night Only.
The famed EGOT status is only given to people who have won an award at all four of the major entertainment ceremonies. An EGOT recipient is someone who’s won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award is considered to be EGOT status. Currently, only 17 actors, producers, directors, and composers have the most coveted status in Hollywood.
Adele Wins Her First Emmy Award
Adele won her first Emmy Award during the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys for her CBS special Adele One Night Only. The singer then expressed her heartfelt gratitude on Instagram in a post alongside a picture of her with the trophy.
“Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch!” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Ben Wilson for dropping this round to me this afternoon!!”
Adele One Night Only is Adele’s first live performance in six years, it was filmed at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. The CBS special aired in November 2021, featured ten performances, and earned five nominations in total. Paul Dugdale, the director of Adele One Night Only, won Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special for directing the film.
Having already won 15 Grammys and an Oscar, Adele only needs a Tony award to reach the status of EGOT. The singer hasn’t received a Tony award nomination as of yet.

Jennifer Hudson Recently Gained EGOT Status Herself
Jennifer Hudson recently reached EGOT status following her Tony award win back in June. Hudson won an Oscar Award in 2006, two Grammy Awards in 2009 and 2017, and then a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021. She then achieved EGOT status at the 2022 Tony Awards for producing A Strange Loop, which won Best Musical.
After accomplishing the first three parts of the EGOT, Adele is now in the same category as other EGOs. Artists such as Eminem, Cher, Elton John, and many others who are one award away from EGOT. Adele is now just one Tony Award away from saying “Hello” to EGOT status.
