Britney Spears recently teased on social media that she had a “secret project” in the works. That project turns out to be a biopic based on her best-selling memoir, The Woman in Me. Universal has landed the rights to the film, as reported by Variety.
Britney Spears Biopic in the Works at Universal
According to Variety, director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt (both of whom worked on the upcoming Wicked films) are developing Spears’ memoir into a feature film. The tell-all book was released last October and became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller.
“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt,” Spears wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. “He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.”
Variety reports that the auction to win the rights to Spears’ memoir was “highly competitive,” with Universal coming out victorious. In November of last year, it was reported that Brad Pitt and Reese Witherspoon were among those who wanted to adapt the book.
Social media is already discussing who should play Spears in her biopic, with names like Millie Bobby Brown, Sabrina Carpenter, and Margot Robbie being mentioned. Others want to see an unknown actress take on the role.

Spears Reacts to Halsey’s Music Video Homage
Recently, singer Halsey released a new song called “Lucky,” which interpolates Spears’ famous song of the same name. The track was accompanied by a music video in which Halsey appears to play a version of Spears.
Spears initially appeared to react negatively to the video, posting on X that she felt “harassed, violated, and bullied.” She even suggested that she would be taking legal action over the depiction. However, she later deleted that post and wrote that it “was not me on my phone,” adding that she loves Halsey.
Spears later deleted that post as well. Meanwhile, Halsey said in a recent interview that Spears was involved in the song “every step of the way.” She added, “I sent her a shot-for-shot treatment of the music video just because I wanted to make sure I was totally nailing it.”
