Dancing With the Stars fans noticed that Tyler Cameron’s vibe seemed off on Tuesday night’s episode. He even was seen walking off after he was given a 5 from guest judge Shirley Ballas. Now, the celebrity is opening up about what actually happened.
Tyler Cameron Breaks Silence on TikTok
On Tuesday night, Tyler posted a video with partner Sharna Burgess, thanking their fans for their support on the series. Within the video, he also explained why he stormed off camera after receiving a low score. In case you missed it, Shirley Ballas scored Tyler with a 5 after he and Sharna’s Horror Night Viennese Waltz.
“This has been a once-in-a-lifetime incredible experience, and I mean it from my heart,” Cameron said, telling Burgess, “I am just so grateful for everything, for you, for what this has meant to me, for everything. And I also want to say, too, y’all saw a real human moment out of me. Not my proudest moment when I was upstairs getting my scores.”
He then doubled down, explaining that it was a moment of disappointment above all. He was not only upset with the scores, but in himself as well.
“I thought we were done filming, and I needed to step away from it all,” he said. “I was disappointed in myself. I thought it was boom or bust at that point, where we had to have a great score or we were out of this competition, and it was bust in my head, and I felt like I let myself down. More importantly, I thought I let Sharna down, and it was hard.”
His partner admitted that Tyler was “so hard on himself” and all of the technique issues he called out where what they “had been working on all week.” Ultimately, since it was his first time recieving that low of a score.
Sharna Opens Up, Saying Tyler Didn’t Deserve a 5
Though it may be considered bias, Sharna also opened up about the score Tyler should have received on during Horror Movie night. It’s important to remember, while the professional took a break from competing on Dancing With the Stars, she worked as a judge on the show’s Australian version of the same name.
“I think your score should not have been sevens. I don’t know why you were given sevens. I think you could have been eights and Shirley’s five, which by the way was the highest she scored a ballroom dance for the whole night,” she said.
Then, she went on to tell her partner that he shouldn’t be down on himself due to the scores.
“What you achieved was incredible. You didn’t let anyone down. It was a tough night,” she said. “For whatever reason, they were tough on you. They’ve been tough on you. Last week, you should have got higher scores, too. It’s been a pattern for you. There are things we can’t control, whatever they’re seeing versus us.”
Tyler then admitted he’s still “extremely disappointed” about that moment, and the moment itself was “real and raw.”
“This show’s a pressure cooker, and all I wanted to do was score well and crush it and move on to the next week, because this has been the most incredible experience. It didn’t happen that way, and I was upset. But I can step back now, an hour removed from it all, and just be so happy with how everything went,” he said.
The celebrity finished out the video explaining that he’s proud of himself and very proud of making it to Week 7 of the competition.
“I’m gonna miss this place, I’m gonna miss this ballroom, I’m gonna miss dancing with you, and it stinks. It’s gonna burn for a little bit, and then it’ll stink for a couple days. But I love this experience overall,” he said. “I’m sorry that I let my emotions get the best of me earlier, but it came out of a place of just love and passion, and it was tough.”
