America’s Got Talent could be the latest in a string of talent shows which are moving production out of California — following The Masked Singer and American Idol. A report from TMZ reveals two possible options for a new locale.
Is America’s Got Talent Moving Out of California?
Sources close to America’s Got Talent have told TMZ that the show’s production is considering a move to either Georgia or Nashville, Tennessee, for Season 22 of the show — which is expected to air next summer.
The reasoning for this move is likely financial, which is the same for other reality shows such as The Masked Singer (which is moving production to New Jersey) and American Idol (which is moving to Georgia). Some states offer tax credits for qualifying productions.
TMZ points out that America’s Got Talent is produced by Fremantle, which is also behind American Idol. So it makes sense that both shows could be moving out of Los Angeles for future seasons.
Although a change has yet to be officially announced for AGT, this could have a major effect the show’s employees. It was recently reported that American Idol‘s California production staff was “blindsided” by the news of a move.
Season 21 of America’s Got Talent will wrap up this week, as a winner will be crowned in Wednesday night’s grand finale after Tuesday’s performance episode. Judge Simon Cowell will once again be absent as he recovers from surgery, as BGT judge KSI replaces him on the panel.
AGT has filmed in California since it premiered in 2006, although some earlier seasons filmed in Las Vegas for certain rounds. It will be interesting to see how a change in locale might affect the show’s panel. Will the same judges be willing to return if the show moves to another state?
