Kelly Clarkson on 'The Voice' 2026

American Idol Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she won’t allow her kids to watch the movie From Justin to Kelly, which she made with runner-up Justin Guarini after the show. Clarkson spoke about the movie during the final show of her Las Vegas residency.

During the final concert of her “Studio Sessions” residency in Las Vegas over the weekend, Clarkson told the audience that she’s “banned” her kids River Rose and Remington from watching the 2003 film From Justin to Kelly, which she jokingly described as “an Oscar-worthy number.”

Clarkson was reminded of the movie, which was critically panned and bombed at the box office, after spotting a fan’s Etsy-bought shirt inspired by it. The singer joked about her involvement in the film, “Two words: Contractually obligated.” When saying the word “obligated,” she held up her middle finger.

“Man, read the f***ing fine print, you know,” Clarkson said. “I didn’t know that if you won, you had to do a movie. Not all of us want to be Meryl Streep, we just like watching her, OK? I was like, ‘I don’t want to be in a movie,’ but they were like, ‘Yeah, but you won.’ And I was like, ‘And I feel like I’m losing? It doesn’t feel quite like a win.’”

Clarkson said that while she respects actors, “it was not what I wanted to do.” However, she said she enjoyed working with Tommy Sims, who co-wrote songs on the movie’s soundtrack. As she said, “The music part, that was fun. See? You gotta find the positive, motherf***ers, you know? Turn that s*** into lemonade … and cry yourself to sleep.”

Clarkson Wrapped Up Her Vegas Residency

Kelly Clarkson has now wrapped up her second residency in Las Vegas. Her first, titled “Chemistry: An Intimate Evening with Kelly Clarkson”, was held at the Bakkt theater in 2023 and 2024. This new residency, titled “Studio Sessions,” was performed at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The residency was originally set to begin on July 4, 2025. However, Clarkson postponed the first two concerts to protect her voice. She later postponed more dates in August, around the time her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock passed away following a cancer battle. The residency was later extended into 2026 to make up for the shows that were postponed.
