Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert are absolutely glowing after welcoming their long-awaited rainbow baby on December 29, 2025. Now, the couple is soaking in all the time they can with their newborn.
Derek Hough, Hayley Erbert Open Up About Life With a Newborn
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Dancing With The Stars judge Derek Hough recently talked about his newborn with wife Hayley Erbert. The pair opened up about what it’s really like to be home with a newborn, including how tired they really are.
According to the couple, the first two weeks with their daughter has been “natural.” Erbert has seamlessly entered the role of mother. Nonetheless, the pair isn’t extremely tired at the moment, since their daughter is “a great sleeper.”
While looking back at their daughters birth, the pair discussed their home-birth set up. According to Hough, the set up included “candles everywhere, beautiful music playing.” He also shared that his wife was a “badass” during labor.
As for the pregnancy itself, Erbert admitted she had a rather easy pregnancy. Aside from food aversions, she felt “at peace.” That being said, the pair also admitted they were “really scared that something happened” since Erbert didn’t have any pregnancy symptoms at the beginning of the pregnancy. Since the pair had went through previous loss, they waited until 20 weeks to share the pregnancy with the world.
Their Daughter is Their Rainbow Baby
The couple’s new chapter is being considered a “long-awaited period of joy.” Due to multiple factors, like the couple’s 2022 car accident, Erbert’s 2023 brain bleed, and her 2024 miscarriage, Hough called the last few winters “traumatizing.”
“She’s been through so much,” Hough said of Erbert. “To see her go from where she was to now, giving birth, is amazing. My daughter has a great example here.”
With their rainbow baby’s arrival the couple was able to “rewrite the story of this time of year.” They would rather their years be defined by blessings, not tragedies.
“We’ve had so many moments in life that are not as great,” Hayley said. “So she’s our rainbow after the storm.”
