‘AGT’ Recap: Simon Cowell Hits Golden Buzzer for Latino Rapper

Reading Time: 4 minutes
America’s Got Talent returned to NBC live on Tuesday night with the next round of the quarterfinals. Judge Simon Cowell had this week’s Golden Buzzer pick, he hit it for rapper Micah Palace.
Quarterfinals Three Began Slow
The third round of the quarterfinals began with circus act, Jacqueline and Wagner. The pair flew high above the stage, after the pair began the night out with a roller skate portion. Although the performance wasn’t perfect, the judges complimented the pair on their ability to step up their performance.
Following the aerial group was singer Austin Brown. This time, he singer returned to the stage with an original song. Simon Cowell was not a fan of Austin’s song, saying he would’ve told him to do multiple things differently if he could coach him.
Savannah Bananas player Maceo Harrison returned to the stage with another dynamic dance act. He began the dance outside of the auditorium, dancing all of the way onto the stage. In a funny moment, Maceo appeared on the stage, swinging on a chandelier to the song “chandelier” by Sia.
Returning Contestants Weren’t Overshined in The Quarterfinals
This Quarterfinals group was different from the rest, since the three returning contestants were apart of the lineup. In case you missed it, returning acts are, Anna Saranina (part of Deadly Games 2018), Jessica Sanchez (2009), and Messoudi Brothers (2019).
First to perform of the group was The Messoudi Brothers. They returned to the stage with another juggling act. This time, the brothers added fire to their act, continuing the act of taking their clothes off and putting it back on while juggling between one another.
Next was Anna Saranina, who finally explained why she returned to the stage as a solo performer. The danger-performer admitted she was “sick of being a shadow” as part of Deadly Games in 2018. She went on to perform a danger act where she shot crossbows at her assistant.
Most-anticipated act of the night, Jessica Sanchez, returned to the stage, singing “Ordinary” by Alex Warren. Even though Jessica’s voice has changed throughout her pregnancy, she is still easily the best singer of the night. If Cowell hadn’t already awarded his Golden Buzzer, Jessica would’ve gotten it from this performance. Apparently, the singer was not feeling well ahead of her performance and almost didn’t go on.
Acts Show Their Roots in Incredible Quarterfinal Performances
Benn Family Band came back to the AGT stage, retelling the story of how they were unhomed during the recent California wildfires. In addition, they discussed their father’s job at the Pasadena Civic Center, and how it inspired their AGT run. In this round they performed “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz. Howie Mandel admitted that as a judge, it’s tough to separate the act from the storyline, but with them it’s hard not to.
Following the family band was Latino rapper/singer Micah Palace. In his audition, Micah sang/rapped about being from a Latin American household, but not speaking fluent spanish. During the Quarterfinals, Micah performed a song, hoping for a World Cup vibe. The singer quickly got the audience into the act and put on a very entertaining performance. Mel B admitted that she didn’t really get the act, but it didn’t matter, since Cowell did.
Unique Acts Surprised Judges
AI magician Mastermind returned to the stage with an emoji-based magic act, where he made Cowell’s emoji appear on his and Mandel’s phones. They then had a random audience member pick a person they wished to reconnect with. That person was then calling them, and located in an elevator. Adding together the audience member’s seat and the word elevator, it spelled out Cowell’s emoji.
Later, Indian Rock Group Girish and The Chronicles returned to the stage, singing a rock version of “Unstoppable” by Sia. Although possibly not the best vocal performance, the judges agreed that rock ‘n roll is timeless.
Finally, Chris Turner took the stage, getting random comments from Instagram for his unique rap. Judges made sure to make it clear that they were not told of the words ahead of time and this rap was entirely made on the spot.
Voting for the third AGT quarter final ends tomorrow, Wednesday, September 3 at 7 a.m. ET. Be sure to tune into the show tomorrow to see who will be continuing on into the finale.
