Netflix has officially shown a preview for Liam Payne’s final project, Building The Band. Here’s everything to know about the series, including its anticipated release date!
Building The Band Preview Shown at Netflix’s Tudum Event 2025
During Netflix’s recent Tudum event, the streaming network shared a preview of its newest reality competition show Building The Band. As a representative of the show, AJ McLean appeared on stage with a preview. For those who may not know, this show marks Liam Payne’s final project before his sudden October 2024 death.
“Today’s most talented singers in the world will audition for each other and choose their own bandmates before ever seeing them,” McLean said. “Our judge and mentor, Nicole Scherzinger, and guest judges Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne, are from some of the biggest bands of all time. This show is all about one word: chemistry. And believe me: in a band, you really need some good chemistry.”
Within the sneak peek, singers are seen arriving in the studio and heading to their booths. Within the booths, they’re able to meet other artists and hear each person’s music style.
Right away, contestants are seen discussing the importance of chemistry, as well as how difficult it is to create chemistry without seeing bandmates. One contestant is even shown saying they want to be apart of a girl group.
Contestants are then shown sitting in the booth, listening to each other’s performances. They’re shown getting emotional to other’s voices. The final portion of the sneak preview showed singers hitting a button, similar to the one seen on The Voice, to state that the singer is interested in teaming up.
Building The Band is set to stream on Netflix in Summer 2025. AJ McLean appears as the show’s host, while Liam Payne, Kelly Rowland, and Nicole Scherzinger are on the judging panel.
The Show Was Announced Last Summer
Netflix announced Building The Band in August 2024. The show then started filming soon after with judging panel, Liam Payne, Kelly Rowland, and Nicole Scherzinger.
“The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual ‘booths’ without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit,” the show’s description read. “What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play? With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal — to find the next great music band — the stage is set for an unforgettable experience.”
A few months after filming wrapped, Payne tragically died in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The well-known singer had fallen off a balcony at his hotel. Later, it was confirmed that he died of “polytrauma,” defined as, multiple injuries that involve organs or systems.
