New information has been revealed about One Direction star Liam Payne’s death last month. According to TMZ, it appears that Payne was trying to escape from his third-floor hotel room in Argentina via the balcony when he fell to his death.
Liam Payne Was Allegedly Trying to Escape Hotel Room
TMZ shared images from surveillance footage that appears to have been captured shortly before Payne’s death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The images show hotel workers carrying Payne in the lobby and bringing him back to his room after he was allegedly being disruptive.
Payne is conscious in these images, and TMZ points out that he seemed to resist being brought back to his room. However, employees reportedly opened the room with a master key and put Payne inside, soon after removing a mirror from the hallway — possibly to avoid damage.
TMZ suggests that Payne may have tried to escape from the room’s balcony, something he has apparently done in the past. Sources told the outlet that in September of this year, Payne escaped via a balcony in Florida after his bodyguard put him in a room. He apparently scaled down a garden hose.
The singer apparently hated being locked up in hotel rooms, something that happened during his time in One Direction. Further evidence to suggest he was trying to escape includes the fact that he was found with a bag on his shoulder, and another bag that appeared to belong to him was found on the second-floor balcony days after his death.

Is the Hotel at Fault for Payne’s Death?
TMZ speculates that Payne may have warned hotel employees that he would try to escape via the balcony. This is because an employee called 911 about Payne, telling the operator, “I don’t know whether his life may be in danger. He is in a room with a balcony, and, well, we’re a little afraid …”
Officials previously determined that Payne fell off the balcony in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness.” Traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant were found in his system. Earlier this month, three people were arrested in connection with Payne’s death.
A source told TMZ they believe authorities are trying to protect the hotel from responsibility. The outlet contacted the hotel about the matter, and they apparently responded with “no comment.”
