The Masked Singer alum Michael Bolton has revealed that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery before the holidays. Bolton told fans that he’ll be taking a break from touring to focus on his recovery.

Michael Bolton Shares Brain Tumor Diagnosis with Fans

Earlier this month, Bolton took to Instagram to share a message with his fans, saying he faced “some very unexpected challenges” last year. The singer explained that he was discovered to have a brain tumor and underwent “immediate surgery.”

“Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success,” Bolton wrote. “I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family. For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring.”

Bolton said he hated to “ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show,” but he assured his followers that by taking a break, he would be able to “get back to performing soon.” He thanked fans for their support over the years and promised to keep them updated.

Bolton Appeared on The Masked Singer Last Year

Last year, Bolton appeared as Wolf on Season 9 of The Masked Singer. He performed on just one episode before being eliminated, after singing “Break on Through” by the Doors. After he was unmasked, he performed his own song “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.”

After competing on the show, Bolton released a new album called Spark of Light, which was his first original project since 2009. Songs on the album include the title track, as well as “Just the Beginning” and “Beautiful World.”

“I felt a responsibility to help people feel a spark in their lives. Music is very powerful that way,” Bolton told Billboard. “We’re all so humanly connected; we’re so in need of some light. That became the working theme every day: ‘How do we make [the music] make other people feel better?’”
