According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a California labor commissioner found that Blackstock should not have booked gigs for Clarkson on projects like The Voice, Wayfair, and the Billboard Music Awards. For the most part, only agents can lawfully book those kinds of jobs.
Blackstock reportedly collected fees for booking these gigs, and he has now been ordered to return the commissions he earned, totaling $2,641,374. That includes $1.98 million in commissions for Clarkson’s job as a coach on The Voice.
In contrast, Blackstock only received $93.30 for Clarkson hosting the BBMAs. According to TMZ, Blackstock intends to appeal the ruling. Apparently, he will be able to keep the money he earned in commissions for Clarkson’s role as the host of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Clarkson has been open about her experience with divorce, which inspired her most recent album Chemistry. She’s even hinted at the split in some of her performances. While singing her song “Piece by Piece” (which was written about their relationship), Clarkson put an empowering twist on the lyrics.
“I just walk away, when they ask for money / I take care of me, ’cause I love me,” Clarkson sang in the new version of the track.
