Liam Payne Hospitalized With Serious Kidney Infection

Former One Direction member Liam Payne has officially canceled his upcoming tour, set to begin in Lima, Peru on September 1. On August 25, the singer recorded a video of himself, explaining “with a heavy heart” that he had “no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America.”

The singer continued, explaining that he has been hospitalized with a serious kidney infection for about a week. Although the tour group had begun rehearsing, doctors have advised Payne to cancel the tour, since it’s “not the right time to be out on the road trying to recover from this.”

In regard to his illness, the singer says he “wouldn’t wish [it] on anyone.” Right now, the doctors have ordered him to “rest and recover.” At this time, the singer currently doesn’t know when shows will be rescheduled.

Payne ended the video apologetically, stating that he and his team are attempting to reschedule the dates. In the meantime, they are issuing refunds to fans. For those who may not know, this tour was supposed to begin on September 1, concluding on the 12th.

He Celebrated 100 Days of Sobriety in July

Earlier this year, Payne announced a milestone in his sobriety journey. In July, the singer announced that he was 100 days sober, after spending time in a rehab facility in Louisiana.

“Things are really, really good. I’m sober now over 100 days. I feel amazing,” Payne said at the time.

In addition, he included that fans’ support has helped him through his sobriety. He admitted at the time that he’s “super happy.”

For those who may not know, in 2021, Payne revealed that he had suffered from depression and substance abuse during his appearance in One Direction. During that time, the singer had turned to alcohol and prescription pills, stating that he was “very good at hiding it.”

“The problem was, in the band … the best way to secure us, because of how big we’d got, was just to lock us in our rooms,” Payne recalled on the Diary of a CEO podcast. “What’s in the room? A minibar. So at a certain point, I just thought, ‘Well, I’m going to have a party for one,’ and that just seemed to carry on throughout many years of my life.”
