Pentatonix’s baritone Scott Hoying recently opened up about his first ever single away from the a cappella, “Mars.” He also revisited the moment where he reconnected with pop star Meghan Trainor which led to his contribution in her latest hit, “Made You Look.

Scott Hoying Admits Feeling Afraid to Release a Solo Before

Stepping away from his comfort zone, Scott Hoying has finally debuted the solo artist in him through “Mars.” As the musician shared some details during one episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Hoying couldn’t help but be candid. According to him, while the single was “huge” and “exciting,” he nevertheless felt scared at first.

“I think that being in Pentatonix id like your best friends are up there with you and you make stuff together,” he said. “I was just so scared to be vulnerable and tell my own story and be on my own.”

Furthermore, Hoying revealed that “Mars” is about his fiancé Mark. Particularly, the song tackles how Mark was able to do things for him personally. The same also touches the several insecurities that Hoying went through during his 20s.

The Pentatonix member met Mark during a mutual friend’s birthday party at a bar. As he added him on Facebook afterwards, romance has begun to brew between them.

He Admires Meghan Trainor for Being “Hands-On” with Her Music

Releasing “Mars” is not Hoying’s only milestone previously. Apparently, he’s also been a part of Meghan Trainor’s “Made You Look” official music video. Elsewhere in the interview, Hoying recalled how a simple text message led him to securing a role in Trainor’s music video.

“When we got engaged, Mark and I, she texted me, ‘Congratulations.’ And I was like ‘Thank you so much. What have you been up to? I haven’t talked to you in forever’ and she was like ‘I’m working on music. Do you wanna hear anything?’ and I was like, ‘Yes, send everything.'”

Subsequently, Trainor sent him “Made You Look” and “Bad For Me,” both of which he enjoyed listening to. Hoying confidently knew the moment he heard “Made You Look” for the first time that it’s going to be a bop. Meanwhile, he’s managed to create a beautiful choir version of “Bad For Me,” thus prompting Trainor to invite Hoying and cast him as a part of her music video.

As stated by Hoying, Trainor is one artist that’s amazing to work with. He also emphasized how hands-on the “Dear Future Husband” singer shall be.
