Charli D’Amelio Says Mark Ballas is a “Safe Space” During Rough Rehearsals

After weeks of dominating in the Dancing With The Stars competition, Charli D’Amelio has opened up about her ballroom frustrations. The TikTok star also revealed what she thinks about the season’s cast.
Charli D’Amelio Reveals Ballroom Dancing Difficulties
It’s no secret that TikTok star Charli D’Amelio had dance experience ahead of her time on Dancing With the Stars. Although many thought the experience would make Charli’s journey on the series easier, it didn’t save her from feeling disappointed in her performances. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Charli revealed that she struggled during a recent rehearsal with partner Mark Ballas.
“Before we competed that dance where I got my perfect score, that week was miserable. So frustrated, I could not get it,” she said. “It was so technical, my neck is sore because you literally have to stand like all the way back.”
After talking it out with Mark, Charli admitted that she’s being too hard on herself. At the time, she felt as if the choreography wasn’t clicking, so she prepared to be in the bottom two of the night.
When the pair performed on Michael Bublé night, Charli realized that her hard work was worth it. She snagged her first ever perfect score after dancing a Foxtrot routine to “Higher.”
Amid frustrations, Chari says her experience on DWTS is better than she had expected. Entering the competition “unsure” about its nuances, she now feels lucky that she’s on the show.
She Says Mark Ballas is a “Safe Space”
Along with her discussion of dance Charli talked about other cast members. According to the TikTok star, she’s been learning everyday about the “incredible things” that other celebrities do in their respective industries.
“We get into a room with these professional dancers and we have no idea what we’re doing and we all just get to be you know, a little insecure and just ready to ride the wave,” she said. “And everyone on the show is just okay with figuring it out as we go.”
While Charli likes the whole DWTS cast, she sees Mark as the “sweetest person ever” and even considers him as a “safe space.”
“I can’t even explain it, but I’m having the time of my life as we go,” she said. “As tired as I am and as much as my body hurts right now, I would not, [the] only thing I’m scared of is when it’s over.”
So far, Charli is considered to be one of the frontrunners of the show along with Wayne Brady and Gabby Windey. These three have been topping the leaderboard in most weeks.
