Katy Perry, Thomas Rhett Release Captivating Country Track “Where We Started”

Katy Perry and Thomas Rhett teamed up to release country track “Where We Started,” the title track of Rhett’s new album. While this duo seems unlikely, they totally exceeded expectations. Fans are already going crazy over this song.
Even though it was released on April 1, this collaboration is no April fools day joke. Rhett and Perry are known for creating music in different genres, yet their voices fit smoothly together on this country track. While the song is definitely still considered apart of the country genre, it contains Perry’s iconic pop elements. When sharing the arrival of this song on Instagram, Perry noted that she went back to her Nashville, Tennessee, roots for this track.
Aside from the silky smooth vocals, the lyrics truly are the biggest strength of this track. “Where We Started” takes the listener on a journey, it portrays an “us against the world” narrative. Instead of looking at where you currently are, this song talks about looking at how far you’ve come.
“Those days when you’re brokenhearted / and you’re getting knocked down and you’re saying / Don’t know how far we’re gonna go just / Look at that road and think about where we started,” Perry and Rhett sing on the track.
Thomas Rhett Says Katy Perry Brought This Track to Life
Rhett revealed that this duet was by chance. One of his team members came up with the idea of sending the track to Perry, but the country singer thought she would never respond. Within 24 hours Perry responded saying that she wanted to be apart of the track.
“She really put a lot of time and effort into this vocal and it’s one of the best,” Rhett said. “I mean, she’s an incredible singer, but this kind of reminded me of how amazing of a vocalist she is. I just felt like it really came to life.”
Before this, Rhett hadn’t considered making “Where We Started” into a duet. Rhett’s newly released album currently sits at No. 2 on the iTunes top albums chart on the day of its release. The duet track has also made it on the to iTunes top songs chart at No. 44. This single is captivating, so I fully expect it to get airtime on the radio. I wouldn’t be surprised if it also breaks the iTunes top song chart top ten within the first week of its release.
