The Voice Generations recently aired on Australian TV, and the spin-off show featured the youngest contestant to ever compete in the franchise. Family band The O’Donnells performed with their 3-year-old daughter Amy, earning a spot on Keith Urban’s team.

The O’Donnells Impress on ‘The Voice Generations’

The Voice Generations featured groups whose members came from different age groups. Seven-member family band The O’Donnells auditioned with a cover of “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga. At this point, Keith Urban was the only coach left without a full team.

The other coaches encouraged Urban to turn around, which he eventually did. He praised them for turning the pop song into “a gospel bluegrass number.” He also pointed out that Amy is the youngest contestant in The Voice history — on any version of the show.

In the Battles, The O’Donnells went up against father-son duo Ty & Eddie, singing “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. Urban encouraged them to start the song a cappella, before putting their signature bluegrass spin on the tune.

Unfortunately, the group was eliminated in this round. However, they shared their gratitude for Urban as a coach and promised that they won’t stop singing.

Who Are The O’Donnells?

The family shared during their audition that there are seven generations of John O’Donnells in the family, and three of them were competing on the show. The oldest members, married couple John and Wendy, first performed with their kids John, Jacqui, and Katelyn in the late ’90s.

Appropriately, the couple’s youngest daughter Katelyn was 3 years old at the time, the same as Amy. In 2009, the family started performing at country music festivals, and they eventually released a self-titled album. Although John and Wendy’s kids eventually left home, they still played together.

“One of the good things about being a family band is that we know each other’s strengths and play off one another a little bit,” Wendy shared in an interview. “We all do love to perform, and we love to see the smiles on people’s faces when we play.”

The band also features 8-year-old Johnny, who is Amy’s older brother. He carries on the same name as his father and grandfather. You can follow the band on Instagram and listen to their album on Spotify.
