Wyatt Pike Performs Original Song On ‘American Idol’

Wyatt’s parents and his sister have always supported his music career. They are currently living in a ski town where he gigs and plays as much as he can. The teen found a love for music in the fifth grade. His first gig was in the lift line at the local ski resort. In the last year or two, his focus has shifted more towards songwriting.

One of the songs he wrote is about his sister. It’s called “Best For You.” He started struggling with anxiety towards the end of high school which his sister could relate to because she dealt with the same thing in the past. This inspired him to write the song.

“A few years ago I had some severe mental health issues,” Wyatt’s sister Hazel says through tears. “Wyatt was there for me the whole time.” The song brought the siblings closer together. At his American Idol audition, Wyatt placed a suitcase on the floor that says “Wyatt Pike’s ticket goes here.” He bought it when he was 13 years old and played his first gig in the lift lines at the ski resort.

Luke Raves About Wyatt’s Artistry And Songwriting Skills

Wyatt launched into the original song and the judges were left speechless. “I want more” Luke Bryan says. He went on to say that Wyatt is the spitting image of his high school bass player. “Man I think you’re totally cool, totally unique, totally in your own world, own lane playing your guitar in your style with your own movements…I think at the nucleus of all this is some pretty interesting artistic magic happening.”

Katy thinks that Wyatt seems a little bit nervous and rightfully so since he is performing in front of three of music’s biggest stars. “These are technical things on top of the immense talent you have,” she says.

“You are a Park City James Taylor, your version” Lionel Richie declares. “You are a fabulous storyteller. Luke was right, you’re in your own lane. The only person you’re boxing with right now is yourself.”
