Howie Mandel Hits ‘Canada’s Got Talent’ Golden Buzzer for Moving Performance

DeeDee Austin gets the Golden Buzzer on 'Canada's Got Talent' 2025

Canada’s Got Talent returned on Tuesday night for a new episode, as the judges watched even more auditions from hopeful contestants. That includes singer DeeDee Austin, who received a Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel for her moving performance.

Howie Mandel Hits Canada’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer

During Tuesday’s episode, 18-year-old DeeDee Austin took the stage, sharing that she’s from the Abegweit First Nation in Scotchfort, Prince Edward Island. She shared that she would be performing an original song she wrote after learning that her great-grandmother attended the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School.

“I just want people to heal, and I want people to walk away educated about the Indigenous community,” DeeDee shared, getting choked up as she shared that her great-grandmother passed away when she was 3 years old.

DeeDee then sat down at the piano to sing her song, titled “Buried Truth.” It featured brutally honest lyrics about the experience of Indigenous people in Canada like her great-grandmother. DeeDee brought incredible emotion to her performance.

Mandel was so impressed by DeeDee’s moving audition that he hit the Golden Buzzer for her, sending her straight to the next round and earning her $25,000 from CIBC. DeeDee was overcome with emotion as she celebrated the special moment.

Mandel Surprises Bus Driver with Amazing Voice

DeeDee Austin’s Golden Buzzer wasn’t the only magic moment Howie Mandel orchestrated during Tuesday night’s show. He also surprised Jonathan Pooley, a bus driver in Toronto who likes to sing on his route.

Mandel disguised himself with a wig to ride Jonathan’s bus and surprise him. He eventually revealed himself and asked Jonathan if he wanted to audition for CGT. Jonathan got emotional as he accepted Mandel’s offer.

Jonathan performed “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims, showing off a soulful voice. Afterward, he admitted that he was nervous but said he was singing to his wife and son to make them proud. Mandel agreed that he seemed nervous, but he thought he deserved to move on.

Unfortunately, Shania Twain wasn’t convinced that he was ready to keep going, so she voted “no.” However, Jonathan earned enough “yes” votes from the other judges to move on in the competition.

Shania Twain Gets Involved in Silly Act

Tuesday’s episode wasn’t without the sillier acts, as a duo called Gerrardon from Japan took the stage to demonstrate a “new sport.” One half of the duo held up a piece of cardboard with a head shape cut out of it, while the other ran through it.

One piece of cardboard turned into three, and then he ran through a large board with the shape of a body cut into it. The crowd was entertained by the overly dramatic routine. Judge Shania Twain even decided to get in on the fun, as she stepped on stage and ran through the cardboard shape herself.

Even after trying it out herself, Twain still wasn’t convinced. She voted “no,” saying, “Silliness is not a talent.” However, Mandel and Kardinal Offishall voted “yes,” leaving the deciding vote to Katherine Ryan. She said that she was initially going to vote “no,” but the audience convinced her to send Gerrardon through.
