Kelly Clarkson delivered yet another amazing Kellyoke cover this week on The Kelly Clarkson Show. The original American Idol winner performed “Red Wine Supernova” by Chappell Roan, and fans are obsessed.
Kelly Clarkson Covers Chappell Roan’s ‘Red Wine Supernova’
For this who don’t know, Clarkson has a segment on her eponymous talk show called Kellyoke, in which she covers songs by other artists. This week, she took the stage to perform “Red Wine Supernova” by pop sensation Chappell Roan, backed by her in-house band Y’all.
This isn’t the first time Clarkson has covered a song by Roan. She previously sang “Pink Pony Club,” “Coffee,” “My Kink Is Karma,” and “Good Luck, Babe!” — the last of which she covered on her show with Miranda Lambert.
“I think this might be Kelly’s favorite album of all time. She’s already done like half the songs!” wrote one fan on YouTube, referring to Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Another fan joked on X (formerly Twitter) that Clarkson should release a “Kelly’s Version” of the entire album.
The popular account Pop Crave shared a clip of Clarkson’s “Red Wine Supernova” performance on X, prompting an outpouring of excitement from fans in the replies. As of this writing, the post has over 40,000 likes and more than 4,000 retweets.
“She has done it again, absolutely bodied another cover!” wrote one user in response to the video. Another wrote, “Chappell’s vibes hit DIFFERENT when Kelly touches them. Her voice just TRANSFORMS this track into pure magic. Not a cover, it’s a whole MOOD elevation.”
Fans also couldn’t help but throw some shade at fellow Idol winner (and new judge) Carrie Underwood, who recently received backlash for her decision to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration. As one YouTube commenter wrote of Clarkson, “The only American Idol we need to be paying attention to right now.”
