The Masked Singer Returns for Barbie Night

The remaining members of Group B took the stage on Wednesday night — including Bluebell, who had fun with “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa, from the Barbie movie. Guesses from the panel about Bluebell’s identity included Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, and Lindsay Lohan.

Goo also performed on Wednesday, singing “Miss Independent” by Ne-Yo as a heartfelt tribute to their fiancée. Goo teased that panelist Robin Thicke is a fan. Guesses from the panel about who might be under the mask included Al Green, Kirk Franklin, and Johnny Gill.

Meanwhile, Wasp sang “Skyscraper” by Demi Lovato during Wednesday’s show, bringing panelist Ken Jeong to tears with the emotional performance. Guesses about Wasp’s identity included Miguel, Frank Ocean, and Daveed Diggs.

Chess Piece Unmasked as Laverne Cox

At the end of the night, one contestant with the fewest number of votes had to be unmasked and eliminated. That contestant turned out to be Chess Piece, who performed “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan during the episode.

Final guesses from the panel about Chess Piece’s identity included Misty Copeland, Serena Williams, Issa Rae, and Tyra Banks. However, none of them guessed that it was Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox.

It turned out that Barbie night was the perfect episode for Cox to be unmasked, since she had a Barbie doll modeled after her. In fact, that very doll appeared as a clue during the show. However, the panel still didn’t figure out it was her.

“To be an openly trans, Black woman in the United States of America right now… I’m so incredible blessed,” Cox said after her unmasking. “But there’s so many people out there who are struggling, and we are human beings who deserve love and opportunities. We all deserve that.”
