During Tuesday night’s new episode of America’s Got Talent Season 18, a singer named Sunny Chatum auditioned. Sunny’s true identity was eventually revealed as comedian Krista Komondor. The bizarre performance has fans online divided.
Fans Divided Over AGT Act Sunny Chatum
Sunny Chatum introduced himself to the judges as a singer from Paris, Texas, who was inspired to play the ukulele by AGT Season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal. The judges became frustrated when Sunny took forever to start singing.
The act eventually earned four red buzzers from the panel, at which point Sunny removed his mustache and revealed that he was actually a character played by female comedian Krista Komondor. Three of the judges took back their buzzers and voted “yes” to sending Krista through.
Fans online were divided about whether Krista’s performance was funny or insensitive. As Instagram user @art.by.ana.nowicki wrote, “I did not find this funny, I found this to be offensive to those with neurological disabilities.” The comment currently has over 200 likes.
User @quillahemlock shared a similar sentiment, writing, “Not funny – horrible not nice to people with disabilities.” Others just didn’t find the act very funny and were more annoyed than amused.

Plenty of Viewers Found the Act Funny
While some AGT viewers were annoyed or offended by the act, plenty of others thought it was funny. The official YouTube video of the audition is full of comments from fans who got a kick out of how convincing Krista was in her role.
“I knew this was a character right away — the cringe seemed intentional, similar to acts like Sethward,” wrote one commenter. “I thought of Andy Kaufman, too, and his incredible ability to make an audience deeply uncomfortable (even hostile) through his performance art. Funny to see how quickly the attitudes of judges and audience completely flipped.”
