The AGT Nielsen Ratings Are Insane
Since the new season of America’s Got Talent premiered over a month ago it has been the ratings champion on Tuesday night and one of the highest rated shows on television. Now that the live shows have started the AGT Nielsen ratings have grown even more. I think there is a very simple reason that this is the case.
Last Tuesday AGT garnered a whopping 13.6 million viewers. That’s up by three million from last week. It beat its closest competition, Code Black, by 68%. Wednesday night’s results show garnered 11.3 million viewers. That’s not counting the people who watched it online. Sure, the show is great and there are a lot of different kinds of acts that perform. But I think there is a simple reason AGT does so well.
Summer is a time when most TV shows go on hiatus. But the networks have to fill that time with content. So, they either do a mid-season replacement or show reruns. But AGT functions when other shows aren’t on. Basically, it’s one of the only shows that is broadcasting fresh content. Why would I want to see some crap I’ve already watched. This is a brilliant strategy.
