Tokio Myers skyrocketed to fame after winning Britain’s Got Talent in 2017. This fusion pianist showed that he has great skill on the competition series when he defeated child magician Issy Simpson. Tokio first took to the Britain’s Got Talent stage in series 11 with a completely unique audition.

He began by playing “Claire de Lune” by Debussy on the piano, then led into an instrumental cover of “Bloodstream” by Ed Sheeran. He left the judges and audience absolutely speechless from the preciseness of each note. As the audition went on, the audience began cheering for the pianist.

Tokio continued to show off his polished skill in both his semi final and final performances. He played “Diamonds” by Rihanna in the semi finals. During this performance there were projections of butterflies, flying around him. Tokio performed an alternative version of “Human” by Rag ‘n’ Bone Man accompanied by a choir in the finals. He walked out of the theatre with a £250,000 cash prize and a performance in front of the Queen of England at the Royal Variety Performance.

On top of his beautiful performances, Tokio mentioned that his love for music came from his upbringing in a rough estate in London. He began playing piano at nine years old after his father gifted him a keyboard. Tokio was offered a full scholarship to study at the London School of Music. Before auditioning for the series, he had supported Kanye West, The Police and Amy Winehouse when he toured with Mr Hudson’s band, Mr Hudson and the Library. He also was apart of Lianne La Havas’ 2016 European Tour. At that time he was signed to the United Kingdom label, BMG.

Where is Tokio Myers Now?

Tokio is now famous from his music mashups. He is totally thriving musically in 2022 with over 78,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. After his BGT win, he released his first album with Syco Records, Our Generation. This album features contributions from Ed Sheeran, J’Danna, Latir, Meave, Vera Hall, Guy Farley, Craigie Dodds, Hugh Fothergill and Alex Hepburn.

Since 2017, he has released seven singles on top of Our Generation. His most recent single dropped in July 2021, but the pianist has shared on social media that he is currently wrapping up two albums. On top of new music, Tokio has also shared that he has merchandise and NFT sales launching soon.

In mid-January the singer announced that he would be apart of a 12 episode series named Piano Flow on BCC Sounds. In this series, the pianist is dropping a new EP each week. The EPs are typically within the genres of classical music, pop music, jazz music, new discoveries, and more. Episodes of this series only live within the BBC Sounds website and phone application. As of right now they are not streamable on services like Apple Music or Spotify.
