Sahar Tabar, the influencer you may know as “Zombie Angelina Jolie,” will be seeing Iranian prison bars for the next ten years. After being arrested last year for her activities on social media, the decade-long sentence was decided just days ago according to her lawyer. She is paying a heavy price for harmlessly altering photos. The verdict comes with many different opinions and folks are hoping to change her fate.


‘Zombie Angelina Jolie’ In Prison For An Instagram Post

Sahar Tabar, whose real name is actually Fatemeh Khishvand, is the 19-year-old behind the infamous Instagram account. An account that no longer exists after being deleted following her arrest in October 2019. Her Instagram fame started to grow in 2017 after posting photos displaying her unique appearance. In the photos, her facial features make her appear like a “zombie Angelina Jolie.” It was rumored to be her true appearance, achieved through reportedly 50 cosmetic surgeries. She later admitted to having some surgery like nose jobs and lip fillers, and that her signature look was mostly with make-up and Photoshop.

Tabar was charged with corruption of youth and disrespecting the Islamic Republic. The order to detain Tabar was issued by Tehran’s guidance court, which deals in matters of cultural crimes and social and moral corruption. Her harmless actions on social media are considered severe crimes to the Iranian government.


Even after contracting Covid-19 in April, a judge ruled against granting bail. Despite the virus’s impact within the countries prisons, she was shown no sympathy. Before the newest development, it was previously said Tabar might only be facing between 3 months to 2 years.

Iranian Activists Plead For Angelina Jolie’s Help

Tabar dreamed of being famous since she was a child. The Instagram posts were an effort to build her fame. The decision on the young woman’s sentence is one Iranian journalist, Masih Alinejad feels too harsh. She raised awareness for the case after getting the sentencing news from Tabar’s lawyer. Taking to Twitter she writes “Sahar Tabar is only 19. Her joke landed her in jail. Her mother cries every day to get her innocent daughter freed.” Alinejad also released a video calling on Angelina Jolie to petition for Tabar’s release. Watch her video message to Angelina below.
