How 18-Year-Old Zhavia Beat Lady Gaga At Teen Choice Awards?
The up-and-coming star Zhavia Ward burst onto the scene when she competed on The Four: Battle For Stardom at the age of 16. She didn’t win the show, but is arguably one of the most succesful stars post competition show in recent years.
Zhavia’s Success After ‘The Four’
Zhavia gained millions of social media followers during and after the show, mostly teens and younger fans. She secured a multi-million dollar record deal with Sony’s Columbia Records and unlike many contestants, she released a lot of of music. Her song include “Candlelight” “Deep Down” “100 Ways” and her most recent EP called “17”. Zhavia also collaborated with huge names like Diplo, French Montana, and Lil Pump and her biggest collaboration yet with Zayn for the Aladdin soundtrack.
“Choice Song from a Movie” Award
Zhavia and Zayn were nominated for the Teen Choice Awards for their version of “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. The song appeared on the soundtrack and was the song played during the end credits. It received great reviews from critics and fans alike. And clearly, with teens voting on the honor, it was a hit! Their unique take on the classic song put the perfect twist on it.
The pair beat out a lot of big names too! The other nominees were “Broken & Beautiful” by Kelly Clarkson, “Carry On” by Kygo and Rita Ora, “Don’t Give Up On Me” by Andy Grammer, “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, and “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee.
The popularity of both Zhavia & Zayn with teens and young adults is what gave them the edge over these big names.
Both Zhavia and Zayn got their starts on talent shows, so it’s awesome to see the former contestants collaborating and building each other up. Zhavia has been making strides since her run on The Four, releasing new music and performing all over. This award win is huge for her career and hopefully the first of many!
Zhavia Performs “Deep Down”
In addition to her win, Zhavia got to perform a song off her new album, “Deep Down.” It was a short performance but she brought the soul and really showcased her vocals. She has a great flow in the verses, then brings it home with the chorus. To me, Zhavia seemed nervous but it was still an amazing performance. She nailed it and looked great, especially on such a big stage.
But Zhavia wasn’t the only one with talent show ties to take home a surfboard last night. America’s Got Talent was also a winner! The variety talent show beat out The Masked Singer, The Voice, and more for the Choice Reality TV Show Award.
