Black-Eyed Peas frontman, music producer, and all around badass Will.i.Am has been part of the British version of The Voice since the start. He’s like the Adam Levine and Tom Jones is the Blake Shelton of that show. But according to him The Voice UK in particular and The Voice format in general is the best talent show ever created.
He said simply that they are the best because they are there to showcase real talent and not make fun of people. He said,
“You’re getting high-quality performers and artists; it’s not about poking fun at folks that kind of want to sing and don’t really get it. If this was a farmer’s show, The Voice UK is the fruit, and the other shows are just the empty boxes. We make sure the oranges are nice, ripe and juicy for you. Or you could just buy a box – but who wants to buy a box?”
Weird fruit analogy aside, I see what he’s saying. As far as singing shows go, The Voice is the purest form of the medium. AGT and BGT are variety shows and feature many joke acts. American Idol has been gone for a while, The X Factor concentrates on making stars, and The Four does…whatever it does. But The Voice is all about…well…voices. It is all about showing off great singers.
