Will ‘AGT’s Michael Ketterer Still Perform With Garth Brooks After Being Arrested?
After the news broke, there were two main questions at the forefront of the minds of the show’s fans:
#1: What charges would he end up facing?
#2: Would he still be performing with Garth Brooks?
Well, we now have the answers to both of those questions. Ketterer was arrested when the police were called by someone who overheard him fighting with his wife in their LA hotel room. A red mark was discovered on her, but she said she did not wish to press charges against her husband. He was taken in anyway, but rather than facing felony charges, he will participate in a City Attorney Office hearing.
Frank Mateljan, spokesperson for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, emailed USA Today to further explain the situation.
“During those hearings the parties involved are scheduled to come in to our office and relay the details of the event in question, are advised of the law and are given suggestions as to how to avoid future similar incidents. While we do reserve the right to file criminal charges up to one year from the date of the incident, no further action is taken pending any additional information or actions.”
As for Ketterer’s previously-announced sold-out performance at Notre Dame later this fall with Garth Brooks – who wrote him a song to sing during the AGT finale – Brooks called him over the weekend and they ultimately came to the conclusion that it would be best for Ketterer to skip the performance.
I think that the decision made was ultimately for the best, especially because this whole thing was probably fairly traumatic for Michael’s kids and going back into the spotlight anytime soon might cause more damage for the family as a whole (and no matter what he may have done, his children deserve their safety and privacy). It also must be a little awkward for NBC, since they showed Simon Cowell continuously praising Michael for being a great guy the whole season only for him to be arrested less than 24 hours after the finale. And, of course, it’d be a bad look for Garth Brooks if he were to host and endorse Michael’s first performance after this incident.
Unfortunately, this is just a bad situation all around. All I can say is that I’m extremely relieved Michael didn’t actually win AGT. That would have made things even more awkward than they are now (which is saying a lot) and would’ve been a very bad look for the show. I just hope his wife and kids are okay and that this was a one-time (though still one-time-too-many) occurrence.
UPDATE: Michael recently posted a photo of himself and his wife on Instagram…and I don’t think it was a coincidence.
