We got some interesting news today, as it was reported that Sofia Vergara is possibly joining the AGT judging panel. She would be filling one of the seats vacated by Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough after last season.

If you’re familiar with Sofia, you know that she brings a lot to the table. We think she would make an amazing judge, bringing plenty of humor and personality to the show. Read on to find out more.

Why Sofia Vergara Would Make A Great ‘AGT’ Judge

TMZ reports that Sofia met with NBC on Wednesday for two hours regarding a number of different projects, including AGT. Her ABC show Modern Family is in its final season, so it makes sense that she’s looking toward the future.

GABRIELLE UNION IS MOVING ON FROM ‘AGT’ WITH THIS NEW PROJECT

Not only is Sofia hilarious as Gloria on Modern Family, but she’s also a frequent guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She acts in scripted sketches and also plays off-the-cuff games with the host. She’s also constantly hilarious on talk shows like The Tonight Show.

Sofia has great comic timing, so it’s safe to say she would have plenty of funny things to say during judging. She might also be able to bounce off fellow funny judge Howie Mandel. And as an Emmy-nominated actress, she’ll undoubtedly be comfortable filming the show’s scripted bits, without making it too awkward.

Is Sofia Replacing Gabrielle Union?

The official announcement hasn’t been made yet, but it sounds like there’s a strong possibility Sofia will be joining AGT. If the show is trying to replace Gabrielle Union, Sofia seems like a logical fit. She’s an actress with experience in other fields such as fashion design.

However, Sofia would also be joining the show following quite a bit of controversy, as Gabrielle was reportedly fired for calling out a “toxic culture” on set. People are likely to ask Sofia her thoughts on the issue if she’s announced as a judge. It will be interesting to see how she (and the show as a whole) handles that.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Until then, AGT: The Champions premieres January 6, 2020.
