Kelly Clarkson has covered songs by a wide array of artists during her career, but it turns out there’s one song in particular that she’s too intimidated to ever try.
Kelly revealed the song during this week’s episode of The Voice, while talking to her team’s Battle advisor Luis Fonsi. Read on to find out what track Kelly won’t even attempt to perform.
During rehearsals, Kelly told Luis that she’s too scared to cover his hit song “Despacito,” because of all the lyrics and the fact that it’s in Spanish. Luis himself agreed that it was challenging to perform.
“I just realized something,” Kelly told Luis. “You have the one song in history I’m afraid to cover: ‘Despacito.'” Luis replied by telling Kelly, “Come on, you have to cover it now!”
Kelly said she wouldn’t do it, explaining, “I have practiced so hard, because I love singing in Spanish as well, or in just different languages.” Luis agreed that it has “a lot of lyrics,” saying, “It’s wordy for me.”
The coach went on to say it’s “the biggest song of all time,” adding that she would “leave that alone.” However, we can’t help but crave a Kellyoke performance of “Despacito” now.
Just because Kelly won’t cover “Despacito” herself doesn’t mean she doesn’t like it when artists on The Voice perform the song. In 2018, she went crazy for a performance of the song by contestant Jorge Eduardo.
Kelly turned around for the audition almost immediately, and even got out of her seat to dance along. “Y’all are dumb!” she told her fellow coaches who didn’t turn around. Jorge automatically joined Team Kelly.
The coach has made her love for Spanish-language performances clear in her time on The Voice. She’s also turned for Spanish covers of songs like Camila Cabello’s “Havana” and “Mi Corazoncito” by Aventura.
Kelly also loves singing in different languages. Last year, she released six different versions of her song “I Dare You,” with lyrics in Arabic, French, German, Hebrew, and Spanish.
