Why Is Twitter Convinced That ‘America’s Got Talent’ Judge Simon Cowell Is Dead?
Fans of Simon Cowell definitely had the shock of a lifetime when #ripsimoncowell began trending on Twitter late Thursday night. The hashtag quickly grew momentum but people had no idea why considering the America’s Got Talent judge is not actually dead. It was just another celebrity death hoax that got blown way out of proportion.
What Led People To Think Simon Cowell Was Dead?
Social media savvy people all know that when a celebrity is getting dragged or talked about on Twitter, everyone joins in. This is definitely the case when one Twitter user posted that Simon’s Wikipedia page said that he died on June 25, 2020. Once people got wind of this information, they took the hashtag #ripSimonCowell and ran with it. It is one of those scenarios where you see something trending and you panic for a second because you really hope your favorite reality television judge isn’t actually dead. Plus, Wikipedia is a very public platform and it’s easy for people to make changes to certain articles just with simple internet access.
Not only that, but Simon’s Google page used the word “was” instead of “is” which implied that he was no longer alive. This could have just been a case of a hacker or a hater changing the page which is not such a far fetched theory. It has happened in the past with celebrities like Justin Bieber and Cher.
Another reason why people assumed he was dead is because of the fact that he has been rather quiet on social media lately. The last thing he posted on Instagram was a video of his America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer, Waffle Dance Crew. This was on June 16, 2020, but we all know Simon was never a huge fan of posting each day on social media to begin with.
Simon Has Been Seen Filming ‘AGT’ In Recent Days
If Simon were actually dead, the media would be all over the story before news broke on Twitter. He has been filming the America’s Got Talent Judge Cuts recently when production continued after a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Not to mention, when Simon returned home from Mexico after a family getaway, he looked noticeably slimmer and healthier. If the star is in good health and has been seen in the public eye in recent days, then the obvious answer here is that he is not dead. But, that didn’t stop people from posting fake condolences for Simon’s death.
Some of the condolences were done to make a parody out of the situation.
Others were just genuinely scared that Simon actually died because the entertainment giant has left such a huge impact on the world and all of our favorite television shows. Without him, television definitely would never be the same.
Luckily this was all just a hoax and Simon is alive and well.
So we will continue to get to see the very honest America’s Got Talent judge continue to turn people into superstars.
