Why ‘America’s Got Talent Champions’ 2020 Is CANCELLED

The one thing everyone was looking forward to after a chaotic season of ‘AGT’ was definitely a new season of America’s Got Talent: The Champions. But unfortunately, sources at NBC confirmed that the show will not be returning in January like it has for the past two seasons.
Why Isn’t ‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ Returning In January?
Of course the question on everyone’s minds is why won’t this show be airing in January? Well simply put, the coronavirus pandemic has definitely thrown a wrench in a lot of television shows that were planning on filming. Social distancing guidelines and travel restrictions have definitely played a factor in why the show will not be returning.

Have no fear, the show is not canceled just yet so there is a chance that it will be filmed and aired at a later date. This is just one of the many blows producer and judge Simon Cowell has taken this year after suffering from his electric bike accident. If you want to know more about the accident that caused him to miss out on the ‘BGT’ and ‘AGT’ live shows, watch the video below. We discuss everything from his six-hour surgery to his recovery and how his television return was up in the air.
“Unfortunately 2020 is getting worse for Simon” a source told the Daily Mail. “‘The Champions’ show was a wonderful deal for him. He got $10million for judging, EP and Syco rights to the brand from the network and his acts were given huge promotion in the USA,” one source said. “‘But the reality is that everything was stacked against him.”
Other Factors That Contributed To The Show Not Airing As Planned
“Acts flying into LA are just not fully insurable, or even allowed in due to border restrictions” the source continued. “And with the risks associated with COVID, many would have to quarantine for 14 days. Even getting the judges together, socially distanced with a live audience – who vote for the show’s winners – is a headache.”

Judge Alesha Dixon lives in the UK, so it would definitely be hard for her to get to California where the show is filmed with all of the travel restrictions. “On top of that Simon is still not fully fit. It would be a struggle for him to sit down for lengthy periods in comfort watching and judging acts” the source continued.
The source maintains that the doctors have warned Simon not to work on the show since there are some seriously long days of filming. America’s Got Talent: The Champions has been a huge way for NBC to rake in viewers during the wintertime so it will be interesting to see what fills its time slot.
There is still no certainty in when the show will pick up again but the source suggests some time in the spring of 2021.
