We’re only halfway through America’s Got Talent Judge Cuts, but the round has already brought us one of the biggest debates of the season: Voices Of Hope vs. Angel City Chorale. Two choirs, two Golden Buzzers. But which one will prove to be a bigger hit in the live shows?
Choirs haven’t typically stood out on AGT. While we have seen a couple of them reach the semi-finals in recent seasons (Musicality in Season 11 and Greater Works in Season 12) they’ve never really been “water cooler talk” like some of the solo singers and magicians. However, now that we’ve seen both Voices of Hope and Angel City Chorale receive Golden Buzzers, there’s been a little more buzz about this particular genre.
Could we finally see a choir break into the AGT finals? It’s hard to say right now. The vast majority of Golden Buzzers reach the semi-finals with relative ease, so I think it’s likely we’ll see one if not both of these groups there this season. But a spot in the finals is particularly difficult to achieve for groups who compete on the show since many viewers seem to have a hard time connecting with them on an emotional level the same way they do with solo acts and duos. It’s certainly possible, and the Golden Buzzer should be an asset, but both choirs will have to deliver just the right performances in order to please the crowd throughout the live shows.
So, which one is more likely to make the finals? I think Angel City Chorale might have a slightly better shot at it since their audition has probably been the most well-received of the four choir performances so far and they managed to bring something new but still entertaining to the table in Judge Cuts.
However, Voice Of Hope has one thing ACC doesn’t: adorable children. We all know how much the AGT audience loves cute, singing children, and the internet has already taken to one particular member of VOH, who was seen crying during the group’s Judge Cuts performance. (Don’t worry, they were tears of relief!)
It’s going to be very interesting to see how these two very different group approach the live shows and I’m excited to see who comes out on top. (Wouldn’t it be something if the Judges’ Choice spot one week came down to Voices Of Hope versus Angel city Chorale?) But regardless who does, here’s hoping they get to do an epic performance together in the season finale!
