Jennifer Hudson has added her own flavor to the coach’s panel on The Voice. Certainly she has the experience as a renowned singer and the credentials to back it up. But one of the more peculiar habits she’s brought to the show is throwing things like her shoes and notebook at the contestants. What’s that about?
When Chris Weaver appeared on Tuesday night’s blind auditions show, Jennifer asked Miley for her shoe and threw it at him. Apparently, she did this to him when he sang at an event she attended two years before. Jennifer has also tossed her notebook at other singers. She claims that where she comes from that’s what you do when you appreciate someone. I did a little digging and I found that the shoe thing is a real custom. For example, Lady Gaga threw her boot at a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance? a couple of years ago. She explained,
“In the dance community, when you do a really good job, you throw your shoe at the stage.”
OK, fair enough. But I couldn’t find anywhere that you could just hurl just random stuff at people you respect. I think that’s just a Jennifer thing. Adam Levine had another take on it, though. He thinks that it has to do with Jennifer’s frustrations with her rocky start on the show. He said,
“The first couple days went by, and I think she started getting mad. She wasn’t getting people, and I think she finally just got so mad, she had enough, and she started throwing her shoe.”
Interesting. Is she just covering up a temper tantrum with the excuse of tradition?
