What’s ‘American Idol’ Runner-Up Willie Spence Up to Now?

It’s been a few weeks since Willie Spence was named the runner-up of American Idol Season 19. The 20-year-old came in second place to winner Chayce Beckham.
Since his time on the show, Spence has gotten back to performing, both on stage and in front of the camera. He’s shared some insight into his post-Idol life on Instagram recently.
What is Willie Spence Doing After ‘Idol’?
Earlier in June, Spence shared on Instagram that he performed for Ron Clark Academy and the organization Saving Our Daughters in Atlanta. The singer posted a video from his performance, writing, “I could do this for the rest of my life.”
Spence also posted a video of himself performing a cover of the song “Heartbreak Anniversary” by Giveon. Previously, Spence teamed up with fellow contestant Alyssa Wray to perform at a charity concert in Douglas, Georgia.
He’s also preparing to set out on a career of his own, writing on Instagram that he’s “ready to make some dope music for you guys.” Spence told The Palm Beach Post that he considers this “a new beginning.”
“To go through that for three months living in a hotel and having to learn new songs, it’s definitely been hard,” he told the outlet. “But it’s been amazing the whole ride through, so I’m definitely glad that I chose to do the show.”

Spence’s ‘American Idol’ Journey Was Inspiring
Spence started his American Idol journey by singing Rihanna’s “Diamonds” in his audition. He shared that he had lost almost 200 pounds for his health, and said his supportive family was his motivation. Spence received a Golden Ticket to Hollywood from the judges.
Throughout the competition, the singer showed off a powerhouse voice that brought people to tears. He performed such songs as Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” Cynthia Erivo’s “Stand Up,” and “The Circle of Life” from The Lion King.
After he sang John Legend and Common’s song “Glory,” judge Luke Bryan told him, “You’re literally gonna save people’s lives with your voice. You’re gonna bring people out of stuff.”
