Congratulations are in order for Elon Musk and Grimes, who just welcomed a baby boy on Monday. It’s the couple’s first child together, although Musk has five other sons with his ex-wife Justine Wilson.
The Tesla CEO, 48, and the Canadian musician, 32, have been dating since 2018. Read on to find out more about this couple’s relationship, and the weird name they (maybe) chose for the kid.
Elon Musk And Grimes Welcome Baby Boy
Musk announced on Twitter Monday that Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) had given birth, and said she and the baby were “all good.” He also shared a photo of himself holding the newborn, and another of the baby sleeping with a tattoo filter over his face.
According to Yahoo, Grimes had previously told fans that she suffered “complications” with her pregnancy and felt “woefully ill-prepared” to have a child. She has also said that she will allow the child to choose its gender.
If you’re wondering what the parents chose to name the baby, we might have an answer, but we’re not really sure. In response to a fan’s question on Twitter, Elon Musk said the baby’s name is X Æ A-12 Musk. This got people talking about whether or not this weird choice was real.
According to Esquire, one theory (from Reddit) suggests that X could be a placeholder for the undecided first name, while Æ could stand for Ash, and A-12 could be a reference to the Archangel design project by Lockheed Martin. So the name might actually be [placeholder] Ash Archangel Musk. Sure, why not?

Elon Musk & Grimes Relationship History
Elon Musk and Grimes have been one of the weirdest celebrity couples since they made their debut at the Met Gala in 2018. They reportedly met when Musk discovered that Grimes had already made a nerdy joke he was thinking about tweeting, combining thought experiment Roko’s Basilisk with the Rococo style of art.
In 2015, Grimes created a character called Rococo Basilisk for a music video. Musk reached out to Grimes when he learned she had made the pun. “Grimes said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke,” a source told Page Six. “They were both poking fun at AI.”
According to Cosmopolitan, Grimes told the Wall Street Journal that she was “simply unprepared” for the media attention that came with dating Musk. “I just thought I could keep going along in my funny little way,” she said, “and then you casually respond to someone in a tweet and it’s on Fox News, and you’re like, ‘Ugh,’ you know? That was a very disturbing moment.”
Grimes announced her pregnancy in January of this year, and appeared pregnant on the cover of Rolling Stone. In the interview, she confirmed that Elon Musk was the father of her baby. And now here we are, wondering if X Æ A-12 could possibly be a real name.
