WATCH: ‘The Masked Singer’ on ‘SNL’ Ft. Eddie Murphy is Must See TV
It’s always fun to see talent shows like The Masked Singer get the parody treatment on SNL. Over the weekend, the show poked fun at the quirky competition during Eddie Murphy’s time as a host.
Check out the hilarious skit in the video below. Can you guess which of Eddie’s iconic characters in singing under the mask?
‘SNL’ Parodies ‘The Masked Singer’
In the sketch, Chris Redd plays Masked Singer host Nick Cannon, who introduces the show’s judges. Beck Bennett plays Robin Thicke, Kate McKinnon plays Jenny McCarthy, Bowen Yang plays Ken Jeong, and Melissa Villaseñor plays Nicole Scherzinger.
“Nick” then introduces a new masked singer, Corn on the Cob. He performs an incomprehensible rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” which tips the judges off to his identity. He turns out to be Buckwheat, a character Eddie Murphy famously played during his time as an SNL cast member in the ’80s.
In true Buckwheat fashion, he goes on to sing some famous hits like “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” and “Single Ladies” — with some slightly altered lyrics. Interestingly, he nails some of the Spanish lyrics in “Feliz Navidad.”
When Does ‘The Masked Singer’ Return?
Season 2 of The Masked Singer just finished, with the Fox (aka Wayne Brady) being announced as the winner. And thankfully, we won’t have to wait very long for the third season to premiere in 2020.
The new competition will debut on Fox February 2, after the Super Bowl. The show has already teased that the season will include a Banana, a Mouse, a Robot, and more. Maybe the next season will inspire even more parodies on SNL in the new year.
