Watch: Tape Face On America’s Got Talent. Love Him Or Hate Him?
Tape Face was an act that became famous, (and somewhat controversial), on Season 11 of America’s Got Talent . He fell short of winning but finished in the Top 10.
Tape Face, whose real-life name is Sam Wills, is from New Zealand. Wills started his performing career locally and eventually developed his hit show as a character called “The Boy with Tape on his Face”, which started to attract attention all around the world.
His schtick is to take seemingly simple or silly things make humor out of them. He does stand-up comedy without talking, which seems like an oxymoron, but whatever. He creates drama with just soundtracks and no acting. Although, he was a decent conventional stand-up, he figured out a niche in the market that made him unique. He doesn’t talk and is always mysterious and unexpected.
His appearance on America’s Got Talent created a lot of discussion amongst the fans. Many fell in love with his style and wanted him to go all the way to the top. Other fans didn’t get him or his shenanigans. These haters thought it was silly that they even allowed him through the first round. There was a lot of testy talk between fans online and in the comments sections. Clearly, there’s a huge fan following for this style of comedy.
