Synchronized Swimmers On ‘BGT’

The women in Aquabatique were between the ages of 21 and 28. They were previously international synchronized swimmers for Great Britain who retired. One member trained for three and a half years for the Olympics, only to face deselection.

“This is almost a second chance to be able to fulfill that dream and maybe to be able to win Britain’s Got Talent,” she said. “It would be the best.”

When they introduced themselves, BGT judge David Walliams revealed that Aquabatique performed at his wedding. They performed in a tank of water outdoors, and confirmed that the water was cold. The judges, meanwhile, were bundled up in coats.

The women explained that 80 percent of their act is underwater, so “it’s like running and holding your breath at the same time.” They went on to show off a variety of graceful moves, including flips and even some tricks where they were linked together.

Simon Cowell said he felt “patriotic” and “proud” watching their performance. All of the BGT judges voted “yes” to sending Aquabatique through to the next round.

The group made it all the way to the finals, finishing in tenth place. For their last performance, they swam to Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and various other songs, showing off even more elaborate moves.
