Natalia Kills is one of The X Factor‘s greatest mistakes. The music personality and her husband joined the New Zealand version of the show back in 2015 and revealed their hidden spite on one night of the live shows. Here’s a recap of what exactly caused Natalia and her husband to get fired and what they went on to do next!
How Natalia Kills and Willy Moon quickly became the most disliked ‘X Factor’ judges of ALL time
X Factor contestant, Joe Irvine faced a fierce attack back in 2015 on the show after judges at the time, Natalia Kills and her husband launched a lengthy rant on the singer.
“I feel like you are going to stitch someone’s skin to your face and then kill everybody in the audience,” said Moon following Irvine’s performance of “Cry Me A River”. Kills joined in on the abuse, labeling the contestant’s rendition ‘disgusting’.
Natalia accused the singer of copying her husband during the live performance, looking shocked and offended throughout. “As an artist who respects artists’ integrity and intellectual property I am disgusted at how much you have copied my husband,” she remarked.
Unsurprisingly, the couple were quickly fired from the show shortly after the TV moment went viral. Several celebrities chimed in on the TV moment, including X Factor‘s longest-serving judge ever, Louis Walsh. “She obviously has no class, no taste, she’ll never work again I reckon, honestly,” he told Irish radio station RTE2fm. “I mean, who’s going to hire her? Nobody.”
What happened to Natalia Kills and Willy Moon after being axed?
Photographers and paparazzi captured the couple leaving LAX airport as they left New Zealand after they were fired. The two were keen on staying quiet until Kills made a small remark.
“I love my husband with all of my heart, we’ll stick together no matter what. There are many sides to this story and I am not about to get an entire industry in trouble that has been going on for years and years entertaining the masses, so thank you absolutely everyone for your support, thank you to all of my fans, thank you to my husband,” she said.
Natalia went as far as changing her name to disconnect from the mass public scrutiny that she and her husband were receiving.
Years later, viewers still make remarks about Natalia’s behavior on the show, despite an online apology she made after online criticism got the best of the music personality.
“A lot goes on behind the scenes of a reality TV show and you see isn’t always the whole story,” Kills wrote. “The show brought me on to bring my passion, dramatic expression and perspective. I was encouraged to be outspoken and things got out of hand.” She added: “Joe. I hope you can forgive me and I wish you all the best! Be natural, unconventional and be you!”
The female artist was later released from Interscope records before starting a new band with Moon named Cruel Youth.
The chances of these two ever making air time again on a TV show is near to impossible.
