WATCH Kelly Clarkson Reveal The Moment She Knew Her Marriage With Brandon Blackstock Was Over
Kelly Clarkson has opened up about her very public divorce on national television once again. The host of The Kelly Clarkson Show was joined by former ‘Voice’ coach Alicia Keys and Untamed author Glennon Doyle to talk about just how hard going through a divorce can be. Plus, she openly admitted the moment she knew she had to divorce Brandon Blackstock.
Kelly Clarkson Opened Up About Divorce Drama With Brandon Blackstock
Alicia has been a frequent guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show and is the definition of a supportive bestie for Kelly. They listened as Glennon gave a synopsis of her book which is about her own broken marriage and divorce. Kelly can relate to this because she is going through her own divorce drama after she filed the documents back in June. One thing she found especially relatable is that Glennon’s whole divorce was public too.
“I’m obviously going through one right now…. It’s horrible, there are so many hard parts” Kelly told Alicia and Glennon. “The hardest for me is the kids, that’s the hardest for me. I think as women, especially, we’re trained to take it all on and you can deal with it and you’re fine, but it’s your babies you worry about.”
“The hardest part is always the kids” Glennon agreed. “We’re trained to believe to avoid at all costs a broken family. One day I was looking at my daughter and I thought, ‘oh my God, I’m staying in this marriage for her, but would I want this marriage for her?’ And if I would not want this marriage for her, then why am I modeling bad love and calling that good mothering?” Alicia and Kelly had a strong reaction to this. They all greed that the worst thing to pass onto a child is the “unlived life of a parent.”
Kelly Admitted The Pair Were Not Happy In Their Marriage
Kelly had some revelations while reading Untamed. “It was that thing I needed to see to make a step in my life and not just for me but also for my current husband” Kelly said about this section of Glennon’s book. “I’m like, this isn’t happiness for both of us and I feel both of us deserve better,” she said. “Neither one of us would want this for our children. Reading that line so hit home for me, not selfishly but for the family. It’s like, I don’t want this for everyone in this scenario right now.” Other takeaways that Kelly had from the book were that it is ok to feel uncomfortable at times.
Kelly was previously awarded primary physical custody of the couples two children, River Rose, 6 and Remington Alexander, 4. Brandon asked for a hefty payout of nearly half a million dollars a month in child and spousal support plus legal fees.
