WATCH: Katy Perry’s Revealing Birthday Wish During ‘American Idol’ Party
Youtube Yesterday was Katy Perry‘s birthday and she celebrated in style with her fellow Idol judges! Entering to a trumpet fanfare, the three judges are then greeted by screaming fans. Then, they enter a room decorated like the “California Girls” video AKA Katy’s dreams! It is really something else to see Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan in that setting. But most of all, you can hear Katy Perry make a revealing birthday wish!

Even in the thumbnail you can see Katy Perry going wild! She uses a pink bat she was gifted just before to hit and break a pink castle pinata. Then they go over to a cupcake tower with a cake. The cake even has a fondant Katy Perry and her name on top! And when it comes to making her birthday wish, do you hear what she says? It happens right around 6:11, as Lionel and Luke joke about wishing for no new judges.
“Maturity,” Katy whispers.
Now this might not seem like a big deal but it is some next level subtle shade. Last season, Katy had some controversy around her appearances on American Idol for being wild and immature at times. It seems to have gotten to the point where she is aware of it as they tape the new season! But does that mean we’ll see a new Katy Perry that’s more mature this season? From the looks of it, no. It actually seems like she’s doubling down on this perceived immaturity by having a birthday party like this. And I, for one, am excited. That’s just who she is! You gotta love a judge, like Adam Levine on The Voice, who doesn’t take themselves too seriously. It makes for good, light-hearted television!
The other thing that becomes obvious from the video is the growing dynamic between the judges. They all seem to be getting along well and are much more comfortable with each other this time around. When they were first announced last season, it was almost as if they came from different worlds. Lionel represents more classic, old school music. Luke represents country music. And obviously Katy Perry represents popular music today. The dynamic between all of them was missing at the beginning. But they have really grown into each other on the show! You can see how comfortable they are now and how Lionel and Luke are even willing to wear crowns for her birthday.
The next season of American Idol has started taping auditions already but Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan won’t be back on the small screen until the beginning of next year.
