AGT winner Michael Grimm is returning to the show this week for the latest round of AGT: The Champions. The show released a preview video of his performance, which seems to have impressed the judges.
Michael also shared some insight into his experience after winning the show, and what he’s been up to in the years since. Check out his amazing performance in the video below.
Michael Grimm Returns For ‘AGT: Champions’
Michael Grimm won the fifth season of America’s Got Talent in 2010, meaning it’s been almost 10 years since he last performed on the show. Judge Howie Mandel said Michael was the first AGT winner that he met.
The singer explained that he believed runner-up Jackie Evancho would win instead of him. “AGT taught me that anything is possible,” he said of his win.
For his Champions performance, Michael chose to sing “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James while playing the guitar. The bluesy song showed off his incredible voice, and had the audience cheering.
Who Is ‘AGT’ Winner Michael Grimm?
Michael Grimm impressed the judges on Season 5 of AGT with his audition to “You Don’t Know Me.” His talent took him all the way to the million-dollar prize. Michael used the money to build his grandparents a new home after he won, as they lost their house in Hurricane Katrina.
He also got married and recorded an album, but Michael says success hit him “like a freight train,” and he was “not prepared for that level of attention.” He added that he “took a step back and let fame pass me by.”
Michael said he felt nervous to perform on Champions and represent America against so many talented people from around the world. We’ll have to wait until Monday’s new episode to see whether he makes it to the next round.
