WAFFLE Crew Highlights Death And Destruction In NYC On America's Got TalentInstagram

WAFFLE Crew was Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer during the America’s Got Talent auditions, so you know they are extremely talented. But after coming off of such a high, the group had to come back to a COVID stricken New York City, and deal with some tragic losses. They managed to pull through and turn out a dynamite performance during the live shows that definitely made Simon proud.

WAFFLE Crew Has Not Had An Easy Road To The ‘America’s Got Talent’ Live Shows

Before performing during the Quarter Finals on America’s Got Talent, WAFFLE Crew opened up about how life after their audition has not been so easy. After receiving the Golden Buzzer they said “it felt like we could rewrite history, make a change in our community” and Simon even predicted that 2020 would be their year. “And then it all came crashing down,” one of the group members said. “We lost three good friends and it just makes you wonder like who’s next? Is it me next?” asked one dancer.

“It just felt like death and distraction was all around us and there is nothing we can do about it…” One of the group members said.

“Me and my brother are here to make a difference not only for ourselves but for our families, our culture, our city, and our brothers up there watching us.”

The group has also been mourning the loss of former WAFFLE Crew member KJ Balla after he was shot in the chest in Brooklyn, New York in May. The group posted a tribute to him saying “Nothing is more painful in this world than losing someone you love so dearly.”

“Then New York City was hit hard. We had the most cases of COVID-19” they continued on saying before their performance. To date, New York has had 461,618 cases and 32,980 deaths due to the pandemic. It’s been a hard time for the entire state and the city to stand together and try to slow the spread of the deadly virus. WAFFLE Crew is a clear example of what it means to be New York Strong as they continued to perform safely throughout all of it and give hope to their community.

They Have Also Been Voices In The Black Lives Matter Movement

“And then in the middle of this whole global shut down the country divided. We just felt like death and destruction was all around us and there’s nothing we could do about it” their package continued. The death of George Floyd sparked Black Lives Matter protests all over the world including in New York City. WAFFLE Crew has been a voice of the movement as they continue the fight for justice. “It shouldn’t have to be like this. All we can do is try to change the circumstances for the generation that comes after us” they said. “Me and my brothers, we are strong we are here ready to make a big difference not only for ourselves but for our families, for our culture, for our city, for our brothers up there that are watching us and we are ready to show the world what WAFFLE is all about.”

The group crushed their New York inspired performance on America’s Got Talent even paying homage to the city with the scenery. They brought it back to their roots dancing in a subway car on the Universal Studios lot that literally transported the audience to New York City without actually leaving their houses.
