‘The Voice’ Contestant Lucas Holliday Arrested
Remember Lucas Holliday?
He was “The Singing Cashier,” who worked at a convenience store in Michigan and would sing soul songs as he rang up customers. A co-worker shot a video of Lucas doing his thing, uploaded it, and got 100,000 views overnight. A week later, it had a million views.
With renditions of The Beautiful Ones and Tell It Like It Is, he made it to the knockout round of The Voice this season. That’s when Jennifer chose Shi’Ann Jones over him.
Before that round, Lucas said, “This knockout round is so important to me, because I don’t want to go back to Lansing ringing people up at the local Dollar General.”
He may have gotten his wish, though not how he expected.
WLIX in Michigan is reporting that Lucas was arrested on one charge of allegedly possessing amphetamine. He’s being held on a $5,000 bond and will be in court on Monday for arraignment. Under Michigan law, the penalty can be up to two years in prison.
Lucas seemed upbeat after his elimination, thanking his fans and the judges: “I wouldn’t be who I am without you! I wouldn’t’ be able to make music, I wouldn’t be able to be the guy I am, the artist I am, but also be as true to me as possible and I really do Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
He also has an EP on Spotify and was performing concert gigs before The Voice came calling. His future seemed bright, despite not winning the competition.
Now we’ll see what the future holds for him. Talent Recap will follow this story as it unfolds.
