‘The Voice’ Vs. ‘American Idol’…’The Voice’ Wins
So, the question on everyone’s mind yesterday as the reboot of American Idol went against ratings king The Voice was: which one will win the night. The answer is The Voice by a sizable margin. I can’t say as I’m surprised.
The Voice got a 2.3 share or about 11.7 million viewers on Monday night. That’s opposed to American Idol which got a 1.8 share and only 8.4 million viewers. That’s down two million from what Idol did on Sunday. That’s not great. The truth is that American Idol is fighting an uphill battle. They are having to capture new fans while trying to rope in their old audience. No easy task. Viewers have set watching habits and they don’t like to change. It’s possible that this is how it will go. Idol will do well on Sunday but not Monday because a lot of the original audience has moved on to The Voice.
Of course, things can change. The Voice‘s ratings have remained steady over the last few weeks but anything can happen and their audience might defect to American Idol. Only time will tell. It’s really going to heat up when the live shows begin and people are more invested.
