‘The Voice’ Is Back Tonight With Songs Picked By The Fans
One thing that we’ve heard time and again from producers and judges on all of these talent competition shows is that song selection is everything. It’s not enough to pick a good song if it isn’t the right song for whoever is singing. That’s why it’s kind of scary to have the songs chosen by the fans on tonight’s episode of The Voice.
The show asked fans to suggest songs using The Voice app for them to use this week on the show. They tabulated all the results and came up with a song list. I’m not sure how they chose who sings what and whether the artists had any input on which song they get to sing. If the show was just randomly assigning them, that could spell trouble for some. NBC describes the show as,
“The top 11 artists perform live in front of coaches Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for America’s vote. The artists will perform songs selected by fans who have submitted via Xfinity’s “Suggest-A-Song” feature in The Voice Official App. Mae Whitman and Retta from “Good Girls” will make a special appearance in the audience.”
What if they assign Brynn Cartelli Enter Sandman by Metallica or Pryor Baird My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion? I think you can see the potential pitfalls. In general when you ask for suggestions from fans you are going to get some wacky suggestions and they aren’t all great. Except for whoever came up with the name Talentino for our puppet. That was inspired.
