His fellow soldiers noticed the “soulfulness” in his voice when he called cadence. Samuel’s voice is so impressive, he’s been declared the best of the best. The Army held a singing competition, and Samuel won “best male vocalist in the Army.”

“After being in the Army for 20 years, I’ll be retiring in 2021, and I’m coming to the realization that music is a calling.”

Samuel’s wife encouraged him to audition for The Voice, as she’s a huge fan of the show. He ended up singing Stevie Wonder’s “Lately” for his blind audition.

Chair Malfunction Scares Kelly Clarkson

Samuel’s voice inspired coaches Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas to turn their chairs. When he was finished singing, the other coaches’ chairs should have turned around to join them. Instead, something else happened.

While Kelly and Nick were standing up to applaud for Samuel, their chairs spun to face away from the stage. The malfunction made Kelly scream and hold on to the chair, while Nick remained impressively calm.

“Y’all quit messing with me!” Kelly shouted after the hilarious moment. “I’m in heels! Oh, damn!” She and Nick stepped away from their chairs while the problem was fixed, as Blake Shelton twisted around in his own chair to ask Samuel about himself.

Eventually, everyone’s chairs were facing the right direction, and Samuel chose to join Team Nick, saying his kids love the Jonas Brothers singer. We can’t wait to see how he does.
