America’s Got Talent judge and TV star, Simon Cowell, age 60, has suffered a back injury and will be going under the knife, multiple sources are reporting. The sad news comes just a couple days before AGT is set to return to the air for its Live Shows. What happened and how will Simon’s accident impact the AGT Live Shows?
[We expect to hear more throughout the day on this developing story]
The AGT Live shows are set to air this coming Tuesday and this sad news about Simon Cowell’s accident throws the show plans into limbo. The show has already gone through format changes, Heidi Klum missing from the panel due to falling sick and filler episodes due to the pandemic, but this will further complicate the live shows. America’s Got Talent has yet to respond to the news, nor has the production company, Fremantle Media given an official statement.
Cowell has always been a true champion, supporting the message of ‘the show must go on’. Now, with the television personality expected to be having treatment today, it’s possible that Simon might not be in the live shows and may instead watch virtually from his Malibu home.
“Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening,” a spokesperson for Mr. Cowell tells People.com.
Early reports say that AGT Judge and music mogul Simon Cowell was involved in a ‘minor’ accident after falling from his bike on Saturday. A representative for Mr. Cowell tells People.com that “Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family”.
“He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands,” the source says.
Simon has suffered similar devastating accidents before. In 2017, he fell down the stairs at his London home and rushed to the hospital as a result.
Simon has regularly been using his bike, strictly adhering to his doctor’s advice after a huge health shock.
